How to use the peptide reconstitution calculator

Reconstitution turns a freeze-dried peptide vial into a solution of known concentration so a researcher can draw a precise volume on an insulin syringe. The calculator above does the maths in three steps:

  1. Concentration = peptide mg ÷ BAC water ml.
  2. Draw volume = desired dose (in mg) ÷ concentration (mg/ml).
  3. Insulin syringe units = draw volume × syringe scale (100 for U-100, 50 for U-50, 30 for U-30).

Worked example

A 10 mg vial reconstituted with 2 ml of bacteriostatic water gives a concentration of 5 mg/ml (5,000 mcg/ml). For a 250 mcg target dose, you draw 0.05 ml — which on a U-100 insulin syringe is 5 units, and the vial holds 40 such doses.

Bacteriostatic water vs sterile water

Bacteriostatic water (BAC) contains 0.9% benzyl alcohol, which inhibits microbial growth and lets a multi-dose vial be used for up to 28 days when refrigerated. Sterile water has no preservative and is intended for single use.

Storage after reconstitution

Reconstituted research peptides are typically stored in a refrigerator at 2–8°C and used within 28 days. Avoid freezing reconstituted vials — repeated freeze-thaw cycles damage peptide integrity.

FAQ

What syringe should I use for peptides in the UK?

Most UK researchers use U-100 insulin syringes (1 ml, 100 units) with a fixed 29–31 G needle. U-50 and U-30 syringes give finer resolution for very small doses.

How much BAC water should I add to a 10 mg vial?

1 ml or 2 ml are common choices. 2 ml gives easier draws for small doses, 1 ml gives a more concentrated solution for larger doses.
